About the Client
Our client is a world leader in the research, design and marketing of advanced consumer diagnostic products with offices in the UK, Switzerland and China. They are looking for a Head of Engineering to lead a team of 5 people.
About the Role
The Head of Engineering will be accountable for the technical engineering strategy, ensuring the quality delivery of all projects.
Responsibilities include:
- Defining technical competencies and implementing strategies to meet these.
- Driving continuous improvement of the engineering technical capability that is aligned with the business’ goals.
- Defining and implementing effective technical assurance processes, ensuring robust solutions across the engineering function.
- Providing technical guidance to project leaders, assisting in planning of engineering and design specifications.
- Overseeing engineering activities to provide real time guidance and quality assurance of delivery.
- Partnering with technical experts from other functions to ensure robust system integration consistent with product specifications.
- Undertaking evaluation and/or due diligence investigations on potential new technologies or product opportunities.
- Resolving complex technical challenges and providing technical direction and expertise to projects.
- Leading investigations into product failures and understanding the interdependencies of complex systems.
- Driving development and implementation of new technologies/processes.
- Identifying manufacturing process requirements to enable efficient design for manufacture.
- Leading and delivering research projects that enable business growth including identification of Intellectual Property.
Requirements:
Essential:
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or transferable subject with significant industrial experience.
- Experience in developing medical devices to the requirements of the applicable standards and regulations.
- Experience developing technology concepts into products and delivering those products to market.
- Experience of structured design methods utilising calculative techniques to simulate component and system performance.
- Experience in a lead role within a team, demonstrating the ability to provide direction on aspects of GxP, Quality Management and H&S.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with mobile phone application, embedded and PC software design and development.
- Experience incorporating biodegradable/sustainable materials and manufacturing methods into product design.
- Experience in electronic/software image interpretation.
- Experience in statistical modelling techniques.
- Experience with Six Sigma techniques.
